2022 Fall Kick Off



2022 Convention

We were excited to be able to attend the 2022 Convention in St. Louis, MO! We received the Chicago Award.

We look forward to the 2024 Convention in Chicago, IL as well as celebrating our upcoming 150th anniversary.


2021 Founders Day Celebration

We celebrated 147 years of Gamma Phi Beta at our 2021 Founders Day Celebration. Held at Deer Creek Golf Club in Overland Park, Kansas. During our brunch, we celebrated our 2020 and 2021 Woman of the Year recipients Cathy Boomer (2020) and Nancy Kuehler (2021). We also recognized 5 of our 50 year members. Fran Mayfield Stevenson (Beta Upsilon) who is currently serving on the International Executive Board, was able to join us and talk to us about her time in the sorority

Our silent auction benefitting our local chapter of Girls on the Run and raised over $600 to help us fund another local elementary school team!

We were thrilled to be able to host this event in person and are excited for 2022!


2020 Virtual Convention

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Gamma Phi Beta was unable to host an in-person convention. Sisters from all over gathered virtually on June 27th, 2020 to host a virtual convention. Cindy Wood (Alpha Delta) invited our board members to her house to celebrate safely!


FEBRUARY 2020 Candle Making At Ember Candle Bar

On Saturday, February 8th sisters headed to Ember Candle Bar in Lees Summit to create their very own customized candle!


December 2019 Sisterhood Ornament Exchange & Brunch

On Sunday, Dec. 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. we celebrated the season of joy with an alumnae holiday party ornament exchange and brunch at sister Tammy West Laudan's (Beta Upsilon) home in Leawood, Kansas. We enjoyed delicious food, mimosas, and fun camaraderie with sisters!

2019 Founders Day Celebration

We celebrated 145 years of Gamma Phi Beta at our 2019 Founders Day Celebration. Held at Deer Creek Golf Club in Overland Park, Kansas, the reception began at 11:30 a.m. with a delicious brunch buffet. Fifty-five members were present as we honored our 2019 IIKE and Woman of the Year recipient Tammy West Laudan of Beta Upsilon and pinned our 50 year members (class of 1969) Betty Akard of Alpha Delta (Mizzou), Jeanne Gorman of Sigma (Kansas), Dianne Sayers Boren of Beta Upsilon (Kansas State), and Nancy Pinto Steen of Beta Tau (Texas Tech). This year we held a silent auction benefitting our local chapter of Girls on the Run and raised $445 to help us fund another local elementary school team! We also had our annual 50/50 raffle and raised $178 for GOTR. Jeanne Gorman was our lucky winner and she graciously donated all of the money back to Girls on the Run. Thank you Jeanne!


Spring Girls on The Run 5k race • may 4, 2019

The spring 2019 GOTR KC 5k race was held at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Gamma Phi’s continued to be the hospitality volunteers handing out post-race food, cheering on the runners, and awarding finishers with their medals.


2018 Founders Day Event

Our 2018 Founders Day celebration was held at The Martin Event Space at 13440 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO on Thursday evening, November 8, 2018. We celebrated 144 years of Gamma Phi Beta with an awards reception, dinner buffet, trivia, and more! Our 2018 Woman of the Year was Diana Zarda. Our IIKE award was given to Susan Guder Gurwell.


Summer Executive Retreat • July 15, 2018

On July 15, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the home of Lynn Barrett Wilson, Beta Upsilon we held our annual summer retreat to plan for the upcoming year!


2018 “Day at the K” Royals Family Event

On Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 1:15 PM Game Time we enjoyed our annual Spring Fling and Family Celebration of the year watching the Royals play the Oakland A’s! This event was created to include family and friends in a ROYAL experience. We tailgated before the game and watched the Royals bring home a victory!

Winery Tour and Tasting - September 23, 2017

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the Greater KC Alumnae Chapter enjoyed a VIP winery tour and tasting at Amigoni Winery in the West Bottoms. This was another great opportunity to get to know our sisters!

GKC Alumnae Panhellenic: Annual Meeting – APRIL 29, 2017 

The Greater KC Alumnae Panhellenic Association was founded in 1901 and is made up of twenty-two NPC sororities that promote sorority life in the community. Over 170 sorority women attended the 2016 annual meeting, “Sister! It’s All Greek to Us” and $15,000 in scholarships were awarded to six deserving scholarship recipients – this was up $5,000 from last year! The silent auction and 75/25 raffle drawing added $6,000 to the Scholarship Fund for 2017.

This year we honored Gamma Phi Beta's “Woman of the Year”, Julie Colebank Scott, for her remarkable contributions to our sorority. Additional special events include a silent auction, a 75/25 raffle drawing, door prize drawings, and more! The annual meeting is held at the Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas.


Founders Day Celebration 2016 – November 10, 2016

On Thursday, November 10, 2016 our chapter came together to celebrate 142 years of sisterhood. We celebrated ritual, honored our 25, 50, and 75 year members (by initiation year), our 2016 Woman of the Year – Julie Colebank Scott, and our IIKE award recipient – Kathy Beeman. The reception began at 5:30 p.m. and dinner was served at 6:15 p.m. A cash bar was available. Our dinner menu included the Hallbrook House Salad, Boursin Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast paired with parmesan risotto asparagus, tomato, and spinach in a pink peppercorn butter sauce, and a tasty chocolate favor from Annedores Chocolates for dessert. Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae, Kelly Eckerman – KMBC 9 News Anchor, was our fabulous guest speaker. Throughout the night we also had fun participating in our annual "Share the Pot" 75/25 Raffle Drawing to raise funds for our International philanthropy, Girls on the Run as well as for our collegiate chapters KU, KSU, MU, MSU, RU, WSU and newly added UCM! It was a great night had by all!


GIRLS ON THE RUN FALL 5K – NOVEMBER 2016

We had yet another successful Girls on the Run Fall 5K at Arrowhead Stadium. With over 4,000 runners we had our work cut out for us at the Hospitality area. The Greater KC Alumnae Chapter of GPB provided all of the bagels for the event and our very own alumna, Diana Zarda with Hiland Dairy, provided yummy chocolate milk (hence the giant cow)! We arrived bright and early to slice bagels, bananas, and apples to be picked up at the finish line. It sure was chilly, but we can't wait to do it again in the Spring! Top Chef 2.0 – SEPTEMBER 2016

On Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 5:30 to around 9 p.m. an area chef prepared a yummy Spanish and Authentic Mexican dinner for us at sister Brenda Press Harden's beautiful home in Mission Hills! Cost was $30 per person. She explained spices, techniques and other culinary talents while we watched and enjoyed sangria! We then dined on her exquisite dinner and enjoyed even more sangria! Panhellenic Women of the Year & Scholarship Brunch – APRIL 2016

On Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon at the Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills we celebrated our Greater KC Panhellenic Women of the Year and Scholarship winners. Our 2016 Gamma Phi Beta Woman of the Year, Cindy Gates Wood, was recognized for her remarkable contributions to our sorority and the community. Also, Gamma Phi Beta delegate, Nancy Pinto Steen, was serving as Panhellenic President. She ended her term a success! You go girls!

 


Gamma Phi Day At the K! – APRIL 2016

On Sunday, April 24, 2016 a group of 20 GPB’s and their significant others/friends all gathered together to tailgate and enjoy the Royals vs. Orioles game at 1:15 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium! We enjoyed a tailgate full of BBQ burgers and brats, salads, baked beans, and drinks of course! During the third inning we even got a shout-out to the crowd! Talk about a great photo op! “Greater KC Alumnae Gamma Phi Beta loves the Royals!” was displayed on the two smaller screens on either side of the Crown Jumbotron at the stadium. It was a blast had by all – and we won! Cheers!


Raise Your Glass and Your Paint Brush – JANUARY 2016

On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. we had our winter social event at Thirsty Pallet in Overland Park, KS. Sisters and friends enjoyed appetizers and an evening of wine and painting! Thirsty Pallet created a custom image just perfect for Gamma Phi Beta!

TOP Chef Party 2015

On Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 6:00 PM an area chef prepared dinner in front of a group of alumnae at Susie Kastner Kerwin’s home in Mission Hills, KS. The chef explained spices, techniques and other culinary talents while we watched, enjoyed wine and then dined on her exquisite cuisine.


2014 Girls On the Run EventS

On Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium and Sunday, May 18th, 2014 at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, KS our alumnae group volunteered for our very own national and local philanthropy, Girls on the Run! We cheered on young girls, passed out granola bars and fruit, and lent a helping hand!

Spring Fling 2014

On Monday, April 28, Gamma Phi sisters from around the Kansas City area gathered together for an “end-of-the-year” Spring Fling! School colors were worn to support alma maters and yummy dips and apps were brought to share. It was a blast catching up with old friends and making new ones too!
